1000 Brussels
Belgium
Bozar is a welcoming and dynamic arts house with a beating heart in Brussels, Belgium. We provide a platform for artists from Belgium and the wider world. Victor Horta’s art deco building is akin to a living body, in which we encourage the free circulation of visual arts, music, film, performances and ideas. Bozar aims to be a vibrant space for the living arts.
Bozar transforms to sustain… Everyone in this house is driven by the transformative power of art, from the artists and visitors to our staff. Art plays a fundamental role in society, in a world that is in the throes of transformation. Art opens up a capacity for change, both on a personal and communal level. We live in critical times, at a tipping point that is riddled with challenges: ethical, demographic, democratic and ecological. Artists and thinkers are deeply cognizant of these issues.
Bozar inhales and inspires… Bozar is akin to a laboratory in which we collectively analyse the possibilities for positive societal change: how can art, both historic and contemporary, contribute to wider social transformations? The Bozar project is founded on democratic and ethical values, with a view to a fairer and more sustainable society that embraces solidarity.
Bozar for the Arts
Bozar aspires to be a leading place for the creation and presentation of hybrid artistic projects, a space for mediation and reflection. We compile a visionary programme that is conscious of diverse traditions; one that is international but firmly anchored in Brussels.
Bozar is an arts house that encourages sparks to ignite between historic and modern heritage. Excellence and experimentation create dynamism in our venue, with music and visual art as the key pillars. Film, performances and spoken word programmes enrich the spectrum and ensure greater depth and further reflection. Recurring formats and series enhance the coherence and circulation within the building. The artistic project is global, yet synonymous with the unique architecture of Horta’s Centre for Fine Arts and the city of Brussels.
Bozar strongly believes in the energy and creativity that are released between poles – not in polarisation – and the primacy of perception.
Bozar for the Audiences
Bozar is a humane space that embraces diversity and thereby makes clear choices. We are closely connected to Brussels, are open to partnerships with local socio-cultural initiatives, and feel a bond with the capital’s youthful urban vibe. Bozar welcomes the world in Brussels and situates Brussels in the world, particularly in the European cultural space.
Bozar for Society
Bozar’s objectives are based on the pursuit of democratic and ethical values, with a view to creating a more inclusive, more egalitarian and more sustainable society.
Bozar wants to further evolve into an open house where everyone feels represented and valued. Our ambition is to systematically become a more diverse and inclusive organisation in terms of the five Ps: the Programme, the Personnel, the Place (hospitality and accessibility), the Public, and the Partners with whom we collaborate. Greater diversity and multiperspectivity are paramount in our programming, as well as in the interplay between diverse repertoires and creations.
