Kunstraum Niederoesterreich is a young exhibition space distinguished by its openness for experimental and transdisciplinary projects. It is a place of artistic research and lively art-related discourse that facilitates exhibitions by local and international artists. Curators from Austria and abroad conceive thematic group exhibitions, investigating current and innovative tendencies in art with a special emphasis on the medium of performance. The focus is placed on methods, topics, and practices in the contemporary performance scene that explore social, political as well as formal thematic realms.
In the endeavour to promote genre-crossing art, Kunstraum Niederoesterreich and an alternating jury award the annual H13 Lower Austria Prize for Performance and present the winning project to the public. Furthermore, in collaboration with artists and theoreticians Kunstraum Niederoesterreich is compiling a performance art archive—a publicly accessible collection for the cultivation and dissemination of performance art.
Conceived as a public communication platform for art, Kunstraum Niederoesterreich offers space for different interest groups to develop their own encounters with art. Besides a range of established educational formats, a special focus is dedicated to project work in cooperation with other institutions and organisations active in the field of integration work.
The Kunstraum Niederoesterreich is part of the NÖ Festival und Kino GmbH.
