Kunstverein Braunschweig is a nationally- and internationally-renowned institution for contemporary art. Founded in 1832, it is today one of the most acclaimed of the more than 300 Kunstvereine (art associations) in Germany. It produces eight solo and group exhibitions annually across two sites (Villa Salve Hospes and Remise) with over 500sqm of exhibition space.
One of Kunstverein Braunschweig’s main objectives is the support of young and emerging positions within contemporary art discourse, presenting the first institutional show of many pioneering modern and contemporary artists. The majority of the exhibitions presented at the Kunstverein consist of newly-commissioned and site-specific works. Our aim to communicate the potentials of contemporary art to diverse audiences is accomplished by publishing catalogues and artist books, through our public program of lectures, artist talks, and guided tours, as well as a varied educational program for children and young people. We believe in contemporary art’s ability to reflect current political events and social structures, and view Kunstverein Braunschweig as a vital site of exchange and dialogue.
