The Kuenstlerhaus Schloss Balmoral, founded in 1995, awards grants to artists from all over the world to promote contemporary visual art. The aim and purpose of the Kuenstlerhaus is to enable independent artistic work in the studio without financial bottlenecks and to promote an open exchange of culture and ideas among international artists and with external partners who are invited to the Kuenstlerhaus. All disciplines of the visual arts are supported. Through exhibitions, lectures and other events, the Kuenstlerhaus enables an exchange with the public, which promotes a multi-perspective, cross-generational and international dialogue between artists, theorists and visitors. The Kuenstlerhaus sees itself as a place of encounter, artistic (knowledge) production and theoretical reflection. Since 2013, the residential fellowships have been advertised for an artistic medium or a topic. This is intended to intensify the creative exchange among the guests present. With the topic and media-specific focus, virulent tendencies in contemporary art and the social discourses that accompany them are taken up and promoted. In addition to financial support, the main aim is to support the artists in building an effective network by bringing them together with various actors from the regional and international art scene.
