Season South Africa was a visual and performing arts program presented by the Museum for African Art and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York to challenge general perceptions of South African art practice and performance. The program ran from mid-September to early January 2004. As part of the program, the exhibition “Personal Affects: Power and Poetics in Contemporary South African Art” featured newly commissioned and recently produced works by an exceptional group of seventeen South African contemporary visual artists working in diverse media, including sculpture, drawing, photography, painting, installation, video, and performance. Additionally, the celebrated lyric theater company Dimpho Di Kopane staged five weeks of performances of four different productions.
