49 Nord 6 Est – Frac Lorraine presents a rich program of exhibitions, debates, talks, film screenings, concerts, and performances that aims at reflecting the plurality of its surroundings.
Operating in a region whose borders have shifted regularly over time, the Frac Lorraine works at challenging, through a program dedicated to the contemporary arts, hierarchies and canons of the pre-dominantly Western white male tradition in art. The Frac functions as a space of exchange and debate that fosters creation, reflection, and experimentation as tools for counteracting cultural isolationism.
Its activities cover the entire territory of Lorraine, with a concentration at the Hôtel Saint-Livier in Metz, and extend to the Grand Est Region. The collection of the Frac Lorraine, comprising around 1530 artworks, is attentive to the place women artists occupy in the artistic ecosystem. It carries out projects which aim to raise public awareness and critically address their environment.
