IED Firenze just launched a brand new Master Course in Museum Education enriching its Arts Academic offer.
The course will start in November 2024, and will be a real journey in the Museum Educational world. The Museum Education Master is a yearlong program in English aiming to form a central figure so deeply intertwined with the new role museums have in our societies.
“Museums are the institutions where history and present times are collected, interpreted, exhibited. The city of Florence and the Italian museum heritage represent a unique opportunity of developing new narrative paths to understand our past and produce the knowledge of the future. The Master will form professionals able to engage different audiences through inclusive, sustainable and participative strategies. Designing new narratives and promoting lifelong and recurring education, social integration and dialogue with other cultures is the aim of the program and reflects the mission of present and future museums.” declares Daria Filardo, coordinator of the Master.
During the Master students will learn insights from experts in the museum sector, acquiring both theoretical and technical knowledge understanding the dynamics and the opportunities that will shape their future career paths.
Students will have the opportunity to collaborate on projects with museums and partner institutions, further enhancing hands-on experience in the field. They will have the unique chance to gain knowledge on international museum education methods by participating in a study trip abroad. This excursion forms an essential component of the Master’s program, providing an extensive and enriching itinerary of museum visits and interactions with professionals in the field throughout the program’s duration.
The knowledge of museum networks, of their specificities, of national and international case studies will give students the opportunity to design, in close contact with professionals of the sector, specific itineraries, public programmes, workshops, publishing material, designed for different audiences and needs.
A Museum Educator is central in the comprehension and awreness of the material and immaterial heritage of the museums and in the design of approaches that make the museum a place open to differences, accessible, an active part of the life of the community.
