Zilberman is proud to announce Isaac Chong Wai and Sim Chi Yin’s participation to the 60th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, Foreigners Everywhere, curated by Adriano Pedrosa. The Biennale Arte 2024 will be held at the Arsenale and Giardini from April 20 to November 24, 2024.
Isaac Chong Wai’s (b.1990; works in Berlin and Hong Kong) artistic practice integrates conceptual, political, and performative elements through an interdisciplinary approach, engaging with the urgency of societal changes and global phenomena. Through performance, video, installation, photography, and drawing, Chong transforms the emotions, tensions, and memories from human interactions into performative materiality and immersive experiences.
In his broad spectrum of works, the artist delves into power relations by exploring both the physical and theoretical boundaries of the body. Navigating the struggles between the individual and the collective, he examines the vulnerability of the body and the inherent violence within social systems and historical traumas. His subtle, poetic, yet critical works infiltrate the systems of meaning, inviting viewers to reexamine their perceptions of power, violence, and fragility.

Sim will take place at the Biennale Arte 2024 as a contributor to Marco Scotini’s project Disobedience Archive.
Disobedience Archive is an evolving project that dates back to 2005 when Marco Scotini planned a traveling exhibition of videos, graphic materials, and ephemera. Since then, the Disobedience Archive has become an ongoing, multi-phase video archive and platform of discussion that deals with the relationship between artistic practices and political action.
Sim Chi Yin (b. 1978) is an artist from Singapore whose research-based practice involves photography, moving image, archival interventions, book-making, and performance, and focuses on history, memory, conflict and extraction. Her work uses artistic and archival interventions to contest and complicate historiographies and colonial narratives. Her work has been presented at the Gropius Bau, Berlin (2023); the Barbican, London (2023); Harvard Art Museums, Boston, USA (2021); Les Rencontres d’Arles, France (2021); Nobel Peace Museum, Oslo (2017), Arko Art Centre, Seoul (2016); Zilberman Gallery Berlin (2021); Hanart TZ Gallery, Hong Kong (2019). She has also participated in the Istanbul Biennale (2022, 2017) and the Guangzhou Image Triennial (2021). Sim was commissioned as the Nobel Peace Prize photographer in 2017, nominated for the Vera List Center’s Jane Lombard Prize for Art and Social Justice in 2020. Her work is in the collections of Harvard Art Museums, The J. Paul Getty Museum, M+ Hong Kong, Singapore Art Museum, and the National Museum Singapore. She was an artist fellow in the Whitney Museum’s Independent Study Program (2022–23) and is completing a PhD at King’s College London.
